Terri Oldham

Terri Oldham is an LCSW-S who received her MSW degree from Baylor University and her undergraduate degree in social work from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She has over 15 years of practice experience and has had the privilege and honor of caring for individuals and families within a variety of contexts. Prior to joining Lakewood, she worked in an outpatient counseling and psychiatric clinic, where she served for 10 years. Additional practice settings have included an in-patient psychiatric hospital, residential treatment center for youth, hospice and end-of-life care, Level-I trauma hospital, juvenile probation, and Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Terri’s areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, grief and loss, personality disorders, and women’s issues. She draws from an eclectic pool of theoretical frameworks and is passionate about utilizing Systems Theory when working with individuals and families. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy are other models she utilizes in her work.

The therapeutic relationship, its development, progress, and meaning that is derived from it — along with creating an environment in which hope for change is ignited within the client — are foundational to Terri’s philosophy of practice. She positions herself as part of the client system and recognizes that the individual is the expert on his or her life. In addition, she recognizes that each person has strengths and, as the therapy process is underway, assists the client in identifying areas of potential growth and change.

In her spare time, Terri enjoys spending time with family, reading, working in the yard, traveling, and walking through Central Texas parks.
