At Lakewood Counseling, we utilize play therapy for children in a unique playroom that is dedicated specifically for children. This process is facilitated by a Registered Play Therapist. Play Therapy is a theoretical approach to helping children process difficult experiences, learn communication skills, regulate emotions, improve self-esteem, develop self-control, and solve problems adaptively. Play is the language that children use to express themselves and Play Therapy, designed for children between 3-12 years old, gives trained mental health practitioners the ability to assess and understand a child’s inner world. At Lakewood Counseling Center, our Play Therapists have specialized training in evidenced-based models of Play Therapy. We also believe that parents and caregivers play an important role in this treatment, therefore it is important to us to collaborate with parents throughout your child’s care so that we implement a treatment plan that addresses all of your family’s needs.
Our hope is that we might be a place where each and every person who enters our doors can feel cared for, safe, and important.
