About Kari

Kari Somera is an Oregon Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and is currently in the process of obtaining her Texas counseling license. She has an established private practice in Oregon since 2018 and has worked in the mental health and social service field for the past 17 years. Kari earned her Masters in Counseling from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, where she grew up. Kari knew at the age of 16 that she would be a counselor working with teens, women, and families, and therefore pursued her Bachelors in Psychology at Azusa Pacific University in Southern California.

Kari understands that counseling can feel vulnerable, challenging and anxiety provoking; She gets it. It takes a lot of courage and strength to reach out for support, and as a therapist, she provides her clients a safe space to be vulnerable, real, and imperfect; for you to come just as you are and to just be, without shame or judgement.

Kari is passionate about holistic health and living in integrated wholeness: mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically; therefore she partners with her clients in their healing journey to identify overarching issues that impact their day-to-day life, and supports them in accomplishing their short-term and long-term goals. Her desire is to empower her clients toward personal growth, and transformation from the inside out, so they can live in freedom and in the fullness of who they are called to be.

Kari utilizes an integrated approach to counseling using methods such as Interpersonal Therapy, Attachment Theory, Trauma Informed Care, Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy and Gottman method for couples.

Kari’s experience and training includes working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. She has worked with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma and attachment issues, marital concerns, family of origin issues, conflict resolution, adjustment to life transitions, spirituality and faith issues, self-esteem issues, identity formation, sexuality and sexual identity issues, kids, teens and adults with developmental disabilities, parenting, organization, executive functioning and more.

Kari is accepting new clients, in person and virtually. She can be reached via email at [email protected] or on her work cell at 541-728-3117. She looks forward to meeting with you!
