Maria B. Wiggins is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who received her Masters of Social Work from New York University. She has over 11 years of practice experience. Prior to joining Lakewood, her career began working in the Bronx, NY serving women in high risk situations throughout their pregnancies. She later worked for the Department of the Army for 7 years treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brian Injury (TBI).
Maria’s areas of specialty include trauma, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship problems, and stress management. She draws from an eclectic pool of frameworks. She is passionate about tailoring a unique and individualized treatment plan for each of her patients. She believes in a holistic approach and integrates auricular acupuncture (if requested) into her care to enhance a mind-body connection. She is trained in several evidenced based modalities, but uses EMDR, CPT, and CBT the most often.
Seeing the impact of burnout, compassion fatigue, and limited supervision within the field, Maria has made it one of her career missions to provide exceptional clinical supervision, case consultation, and education to the mental health field. She is a Board Approved Supervisor and is accepting individuals for clinical supervision and colleagues for consultation. She is in the process of designing courses to assist in the field as well.
In her spare time, Maria enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling, trying new food, and hiking.
