About Dena

Dena M. Slinger is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master of Arts degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Dena is also a proud Veteran of the US Army who served for 10 years. She has a wide range of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. After working alongside children and adolescents, she realized that she has a real passion for helping our youth.

Dena believes that everyone deserves to be heard! Finding her true life’s purpose as a Counselor, Dena draws from her own personal experiences to connect and empathize with individuals of all ages. Using an existential, individualized approach to therapy, she believes in finding the meaning and purpose in all we have, are, and will do in our lifetime. She does this by building a genuine relationship and providing a safe space where you can heal, grow, and discover your own personal freedom from within. Dena is constantly seeking to expand her knowledge and areas of expertise in order to be a better helper; she is currently working towards adding a Play Therapy designation because PLAY is our child’s way of communicating.

Her areas of focus include autism, attachment, behavioral issues, parent-child interaction, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, identity, and trauma. She is also a strong advocate for our LGTBQ community and their rights; having worked with several adolescents and adults who struggle with their gender identity and sexuality, she is uniquely familiar with the individual challenges that they can face.

Dena accepts BCBS, Tricare, and SWHP. Evening and weekend appointments are available.
